Young High Earners

Making good money doesn’t automatically mean you’re building wealth — and whether you need a coach or a financial advisor depends on where you are right now. If you’re earning well but don’t have real assets to manage yet, a coach can help you build the habits. Once you have income, savings, and decisions complex enough to need a plan — stock awards, a mortgage, real tax exposure — that’s when an advisor earns their fee. Either way, the goal is the same: a few smart choices made early and kept up over time, so your 20s and 30s land you somewhere different than your parents’ did.

Not quite there yet? Making Good Choices is Tim’s coaching program built for exactly that stage — building the right habits now, so you’re ready to scale up when your income does.

  • Between roughly 28 and 45, with strong income
  • Earning well, but net worth isn’t keeping pace
  • Receiving stock awards, options, or bonus pay
  • Want to use a 401(k), Roth, and HSA well
  • Juggling a mortgage, kids, and student loans
  • Have no written financial plan yet
  • Want an advisor who explains things in plain English

Is This You?

You’re earning well, but net worth isn’t quite keeping pace with income. Maybe you get stock awards or a bonus. Maybe you work in tech, medicine, law, sales, or run your own practice. Either way, the choices in front of you are bigger now: how much to save, where to put it, how to handle taxes, and how to invest for the long run.

What We Help You Work Through

Cash Flow & Savings Plan

A man and woman in suits looking up at a mountain path marked with milestones: first job, wedding, new home, a baby, a second career move, a car, a vacation home, and retirement at the summit

We start with a clear picture of what comes in, what goes out, and what’s left over. From there we set a savings target that actually fits your life — income review, a monthly savings goal, an emergency fund plan, a debt payoff order, and a simple system to keep it on track.

Tax-Aware Saving

The right accounts, used in the right order, can lower your tax bill now or later. We coordinate with your CPA on 401(k) contributions, Roth and backdoor Roth planning, HSA planning, and bonus or year-end tax timing.

Stock Awards & Bonus Pay

Stock awards can be a meaningful part of your pay — and a real risk if too much rides on one company. We help you think through RSU and stock option timing, concentrated-stock exposure, and how your equity fits your overall plan.

Home, Family & Big Purchases

A house, another child, or a college fund all reshape your plan. We help you weigh a mortgage decision, paying down debt versus investing, 529 planning, and the cash needs of a big purchase before you commit.

Life & Disability Coverage Review

Your income is one of your biggest assets. We review your life insurance needs, disability income coverage, employer benefit gaps, and beneficiary designations, so your family and your paycheck are both accounted for.

Investment Management for the Long Run

We manage your investments around a long-term plan — built for your goals and time frame, diversified, reviewed regularly, and reported on in plain English.

Common Questions from High Earners

Do I need a financial advisor or a financial coach?

It depends on where you are. If you’re earning well but don’t have significant assets yet, a coach can help you build the habits — budgeting, saving, avoiding debt. Once you have real income, savings, stock awards, or tax complexity to manage, that’s when a financial advisor’s ongoing planning and investment management earns its fee.

I make good money. Why doesn’t it feel like I’m getting ahead?

Usually because spending has quietly grown alongside income, or because savings aren’t directed with a specific goal in mind. A written plan puts a number on “ahead” and gives you a way to track toward it.

How much should I be saving, and where?

It depends on your income, goals, and timeline, but the order generally matters as much as the amount — employer match first, then tax-advantaged accounts like a 401(k), HSA, and Roth IRA, then taxable accounts. We help you set the specific numbers.

What should I do with my stock awards?

It depends on how concentrated your position is, your tax situation, and your other goals. We review RSUs, options, and any employer stock plan alongside the rest of your portfolio so one company’s stock doesn’t carry more risk than you realize.

Should I pay down my mortgage or invest?

This comes down to your interest rate, tax situation, and how much liquidity you want to keep on hand. We walk through the math with you rather than giving a one-size-fits-all answer.

Do I have the right life and disability coverage?

Many high earners are underinsured relative to their income, especially outside of employer coverage. We review what you have and identify any gaps.
